Diane Wilson, MA, LCPC, founder of Grimard Wilson Consulting, Inc., has focused more than 20 years on helping people be happy and more effective in their work and life. Her background is in coaching, counseling, and training. Diane's special interests are applying brain science to daily life, ADD and AD/HD, career satisfaction, leadership development, and enhancing emotional intelligence.
After more than 20 years of coaching, I felt quite knowledgeable about the barriers that keep people from being successful in life and work.
I had always been interested in the brain and enjoyed reading about it. However, it wasn't until 2005 that I intimately understood the importance of how the brain works and impacts life and success. In 2005, I was in an automobile accident and suffered traumatic brain injury.
Eventually, I was able to find excellent treatment and, after that, make a full recovery. While this has all taken some time, I've come to see myself as a lucky one. I found the resources I needed to change my life.
A primary component of my treatment was neurofeedback. This is biofeedback from an EEG to help the brain optimize its own functioning. It is used at NASA, with elite athletes, ADD, AD/HD children and adults, and children on autistic spectrum -- just to name a few applications. Some of the research findings include that neurofeedback can be considered efficacious for treating epilepsy and that AD/HD children treated with it have shown significant increases in IQ. While my own injury and recovery was a huge personal learning experience, it also initiated a time of professional learning. I have spent hundreds of hours in clinical training treating children and adults, in taking classes and in doing case consultations with mentors and master teachers in this field.
Given these experiences, I hope you'll understand my pride and happiness in now being able to offer neurofeedback to my own coaching and counseling clients. It is an excellent tool to sharpen your concentration and focus, reduce anxiety, find calmness and connect to your own strengths and passions. It's great for ADD, AD/HD symptoms.
I see my career as a common example of how life sometimes gives us incredible challenges. We face them with as much courage and curiosity as we can. To be honest, sometimes that's very hard. But from our messes, come our messages and our sense of purpose.
As I move forward, I look forward to continue my learning and to educating others on how our brain influences us in body, mind and spirit. My mission is to use neuropsychology and all my other coaching tools to help us all achieve our highest potential in life and work.
