PSYCHOTHERAPY
Life can be challenging, but having a consistent, confidential, and non-judgmental space to focus on yourself can be transformative—sometimes even life-saving.
Therapy offers the opportunity to address your most important personal goals, whether you’re facing challenges related to:
Sleep
Anxiety
Stress
Depression
Assertativeness and self-esteem
Addictions (including internet and substances)
Focus or ADHD
Concussion-syndrome
Loss or major illness
Major life decisions
Trauma
You set your goals, and as your trusted partner, I provide support, feedback, accountability, and attentive listening. I believe with the right support, we can turn our challenges into wisdom, success, mastery, and a deeper self-understanding. As an expert in applied neuroscience, I can make suggestions when appropriate to help leverage your success — to make it easier or faster.
My Approach
Every therapeutic relationship is unique, as are your needs. I don’t believe in a “one size fits all” approach, though brain science strongly shapes my perspective. My clients guide me in becoming the best therapist for them. My goal is to collaborate with you, adapting to your learning style and preferences, to become a valuable resource. Many clients seek therapy with me for neuroscience-based tools they can use, while others simply need a dedicated space to talk through what’s on their minds with an objective, caring listener.
As humbling as it is true, many people have read my book Brain Dance and feel like they already know me, how I think, my own journey and stories of people I have helped. I am honored but it’s not necessary to read it before calling me. :)
My therapy toolkit includes powerful questions, deep listening, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, EMDR, biofeedback, neurofeedback, meditation, and walk-and-talk sessions.
Medical Insurance
I am a licensed mental health counselor in Illinois and Florida, “in-network” for Blue Cross and Blue Shield PPO, and currently “out-of-network” for other providers. I’m also in the process of being credentialed with additional insurance networks in both states. If I’m not in-network with your insurance, we can provide you with a Super Bill for any eligible reimbursement you have with your insurance, HSA or other funding you may have. We respect that these are your financial relationships and act as a “fee for service” provider if I am out the medical insurance provider network you have.
Complimentary Consult
If you’d like to schedule a free check-in to see if we’re a good fit, please use this link to book an appointment or call me at (312) 925-5176 with your availability. I currently am accepting new clients but this can fluxate from time to time.
Please note that all coaching and psychotherapy services are currently provided exclusively via telehealth. My fees for both psychotherapy (CPT 90837) and coaching are $195 for a 55-60 minute session. I also reserve a limited portion of my practice for clients needing financial flexibility.
Common Question:
What’s the difference between psychotherapy and coaching?
Coaching vs. Psychotherapy: Understanding the Difference
In a field where terms are often used inconsistently, this is my take on things: Coaching tends to address more "surface" issues—focusing on learning, behavior, and helping individuals achieve specific, often short-term goals. It’s about guiding people to improve their current circumstances, build new skills, and optimize performance. Whether it’s a boss coaching their employee or an executive coach helping with leadership challenges, coaching motivates people to reach their goals through accountability, feedback, and support.
Psychotherapy, on the other hand, addresses issues with deeper roots. These are challenges that affect us more profoundly and may have existed for a longer period of time. Psychotherapy works to resolve underlying emotional and psychological issues, such as trauma, anxiety, or depression. As a psychotherapist, I’m trained to help clients explore these deeper patterns, understand the complexities of their experiences, and work towards long-term healing and growth.
While coaching can certainly be a helpful tool, especially for behavior change and goal-setting, psychotherapy is about addressing the core issues that impact your well-being on a fundamental level. It’s a structured, professional process, rooted in extensive training, supervision, and licensing.
Understanding Medical Necessity
When using medical insurance to cover therapy sessions, the treatment must meet the standard of "medical necessity." This means that your health plan determines whether the treatment, test, or procedure is necessary to maintain or restore your health or to treat a diagnosed medical condition. Without this determination, the service won’t be covered by insurance. However, insurance coverage varies significantly between policies and companies, and not all plans cover the services in the way you might need or expect.
