Organic Farming Pioneer Visits Chicago

Poster for Dreaming of a Vetter World.

The connection between human health and environmental health is no surprise. Why has it taken us so long to realize that pesticides sprayed on food will not only kill insects but harm us as well?

Across the country, organic farmers are doing their part to change the system. Today, demand for organic food is exploding to the point where supplies are not always sufficient.

At times like these, we look back reverently to pioneers in the field of agriculture. The One Earth Film Festival will screen “Dreaming of a Vetter World” three times during their upcoming festival:

David Vetter, the observant, sensitive, inventive farmer from Nebraska who realized as far back as 1953 that spraying chemicals on his crops was harming the wildlife and soil. Instead, he experimented until he landed on a crop rotation system that regenerates the soil. David will attend the first two screenings and be available for questions, along with his daughter, Allison Vetter. Also, film Director Bonnie Hawthorne will be on hand.

Because I work with both human (brain) and environmental health, I can’t wait to see this film and meet these people. Thank you, One Earth Film Festival, for providing these brilliant films with such rich programs for discussion afterwards.
